Email Spam
Email spam is not solved, no one checks their spam folder and emails sometimes
end up in there, an email from a long lost best friend or the love of you life
may be missed. Could we not have a small, say 1¢ charge for email so spammer’s
operations are not worth it?
Apple Lossless [ALAC] Audio Format
ALAC files have the extension .m4a or .caf indicating the container format, not the codec,
.m4a is also used by the lossy AAC, this is daft, one has to know if the file is playable,
and it is useful to know if it is lossy, from the extension.
They should pick a container format and use .alac as the extension.
ALAC is open source and royalty free.
Use FLAC.
Luckily lossless encoded songs can be converted without loss of quality,
so one can happily convert any ALACs you have in your collection.
Phone Backups
Learn how to backup your phone, including apps and photos, either to a cloud or a computer, or you may
lose everything if you phone is lost, stolen or malfunctions.
Deciduous Trees
Having deciduous trees is daft, they lose their leaves to let the rain through during the winter.
Faulty Electronics
When considering replacing seemingly faulty electronics items fist check that the cord or transformer are not faulty, possibly at an electronics shop.
Website names
Internet host names have always had hyphens in their names to make them readable, e.g. my-great-website.com, not mygreatwebsite.com.
You can have both the hyphenated and run-together names point at the same website.
Graffiti
When one sees graffiti on one’s property one should write over it immediately, so it is illegible, even if that is messy. This action reduces the benefit of the graffiti to the graffiti ‘artist’ and should reduce the phenomenon.
Twenty-four Hour Time
Twenty-four hour time is simpler than twelve hour time: start at 0 hours and count up until the end of the day, then back to 0.
Write it without the colon, e.g. “See you at 1530”.

Upgrading a Computer’s Hard Drive
First, be careful, I am not responsible if you mistakenly lose all of your data. The following steps show how to upgrade Windows 10 to a new hard disk only using trusted Microsoft tools. We create a backup and restore from the backup. You should have a backup drive the same size or larger than your old drive, delete enough contents so you can fit a backup of your entire old drive. Go to Control Panel > Backup and Restore (Windows 7) > Create a system image, select the backup drive. When the backup is finished and you are asked to create system repair disc, do — write a ᴅᴠᴅ. Shut windows down, move the old drive out of the ᴘᴄ and physically install the new drive. Then boot from the System Repair Dᴠᴅ Disc you burnt and select Repair Your Computer > System Image Recovery and then select the latest System Image Backup. After this, many hour process finishes, boot into Windows then go into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management (Local). Select your Main drive, usually C:, right click and select Extend Volume... to make that drive take the entire rest of the new disk. Your new drive will have the same id as the old so if you plug the old disk in go into Control Panel > ··· > Disk Management (Local) to right click and set the old disk online.
Hot Glue
Whilst hot glue guns are convenient, the hot glue melts again in the heat of a car in the summer. I use Aᴅᴏꜱ F2 Multipurpose Contact Adhesive.
Fast Freshen-Up
If one does not have time for a shower one can freshen-up by doing three things: Wash one’s face, apply deodorant and change one’s socks. One can also do this from a car if one is away from home, for say a meeting after work; with water, a towel and socks stored in the car.
The Sky
Thinking about the sky: The sky is 10s of km thick whereas the planet is 10,000 km from pole to the equator. So when the sun is near the horizon it has far, far more air to shine through than when it is overhead, which is why is it cooler late in the day and why the sky is white near the horizon. Winter must be colder because the sun has to shine through more sky due to the angle of the earth; not because of the distance as the farthest point on the earth is 0.004% closer or farther from the sun in winter or summer.
Athlete’s foot
I’ve found Lamisil cream often ineffective. Apply white vinegar to one’s feet at night for a week. Pick off the skin so one can tell when one is cured.
Convenient web email
To make your web email one click away: Use two different web browsers: One, say Edge, for email [Gmail or Outlook.com] and the other, say Chrome, for browsing the web. You can right lick on email links, go ‘copy link’, Alt-Tab to raise Chrome, Ctrl-T for a new tab and Ctrl-V to open the link in Chrome.
Gmail is still the best but is dubious as there are no adds so they are not making money.

Think about if you are in other drivers’ blind spots, and move to where you can be seen.
Trucks
Trucks can not have good brakes due to their momentum so be careful. The same applies when on foot.
Wet Roads
Wet roads are slippery so slow down.
Passing Lanes
Do not speed up when there are passing lanes, even though it feels safer, this allows drivers
travelling faster than you to pass.
Indicating
Indicate for traffic you can not see, i.e. always.
Sun blindness
When the sun is low in the sky it can blind other drivers.
When the low sun is to your back drivers driving towards you probably can not see you clearly.
Phone Numbers
Everyone should have everyone’s phone numbers, that would facilitate more friendships and lovers. There used to be a phone book and that was fine. It would also assist some persons’ lives who are in trouble.
Fuck
Do not use the work “fuck” as a swear word, it puts women off fucking. “Fuck” used to be a good word, sex for just the pleasure of it,
not going out.
Suppose
Suppose is not a negative word, it is a statement more certain than a guess, an estimate but not of a value. Persons say “I think” but
thinking is usually certain so say “I suppose”.
Alcohol
Alcohol makes one trust people one shouldn’t, and the hangover makes you look like one of them.
Have a think about how much you trust everyone around before each drink.
The women think it stops men doing bad things to them and the men think it makes women want to go to bed.
Both are wrong.
Let persons of either gender know when they are wasted.
The fact is alcohol is a drug, without some of the benefits of other drugs.
Metal Coat Hangers
Metal coat hangers are the urban number eight wire, one can use them to make many useful things such as a way to hold a window open just the right amount.
Bacteria
Bacteria can fly so not touching a rubbish bin is not enough, stay 5 – 10 cm away.
Vegetarianism
Add bacon to any vegetarian dish to make it better.
Mosh Pits
I can take a knock as hard as anyone but flying elbows and bodies are an annoying distraction from good heavy music and make it impossible to take a woman to enjoy some of one’s favourite bands.
Socks
Buy all black ankle socks, then they do not need to be sorted and one does not lose a pair when one wears out.
Gruns
Some brands of men’s underwear, such as Mitchdowd, are all about the same size around the waist,
so if you can’t find anything good in your size you are not stuck. I used to joke about having a hot date so requiring my XLs.
Keys
If you have two keys the look the same put one on an additional key ring.
Soap Powder
If you are residing somewhere with shared laundry put the one scoop soap powder in a small container or plastic bag to save having to carry anything back.
Drying Towels
Do not put towels into dryer as they take all the heat, hang it to dry separately over a day. They actually work to dry one’s self when wet.
Shaving
Shave in the shower, use the water to weaken one’s stubble, there is not need for shaving foam as that is to stop the water evaporating.
Finish your sidies, two strokes, in front of a mirror.
Mobile Phones
Buy iPhones not Android. They are easier to use and safeguard you privacy and data; for example showing traffic congestion and ignoring one’s ear
touching the screen when talking. Steve Jobs said his vocation was spiritual, God loves iPhone.
The core of the software on Android phones is the operating system kernel called Linᴜx, this was written by an individual that refers to himself as a “git”
and called another one of his creations “git — the stupid content tracking system” [git man page]. Linᴜx and Android can not be trusted.
The kernel sees everything on your phone such as your credit card number and all of your communications. Almost no businesses trᴜst Linᴜx.
I suppose the military and police only use iPhone.
Wax
You can remove wax from clothes and carpet by covering it with newspaper and ironing it — the wax melts into the paper.
Red wine
Dump lots of salt onto red wine stains and it will soak the wine up.
Garlic
To peel garlic cloves first crush them with the flat of a knife.
Iodine
Iodine is a very effective antiseptic, it stains the skin but is used in hospitals.
Chicken
Salmonella
Raw chicken can cause salmonella poisoning so never cut vegetables on the same chopping board that you have used for raw chicken
Wash the chopping board and knives with very hot soapy water. One can buy roasted chickens, chop and fry the meat
later, one does not need to worry about salmonella.
Cooking
Chicken is cooked when the juice runs clear when you stab it.
General Stains
If stain removal does not work soak the clothes in cold water with washing powder.
